Lot 12: Frontier Collaboration by William Schneider, Heather Schneider, Casey McClure, and Elizabeth Ashlee
Survival on the frontier required one to have skills or know someone who had the skills in need. Friends and family provided support in areas where skills were needed. As they gathered at frontier outposts for their regular muster days, the sharing of skills and craft would be put together to make sure the gear for survival was created or repaired.
In the spirit of these frontier collaborations we offer this couples collaboration of the kit needed on the frontier. Our first couple is a pair of fine blade smiths. Casey McClure has created a wonderful hunters bag ax while his partner Elizabeth Ashlee created the companion knife. The bag ax sports a hardy ash handle and the knife is handled in a deer antler.
The other half of the couple’s collaboration comes from William and Heather Schneider. William has created a hunting bag out of frontier style hometan deerskin. It sports a forged buckle and carries the ax and knife combo. He also created a few accessory bags to carry flints and tools needed for a hunters long gun. His wife Heather created a ball/shot bag from a stout striped linen with a turned antler spout and wood stopper. William also included an original horn that has been reworked and made usable to round out the grouping. This set would complement any hunting long gun through many hunting adventures.
