Lot 25: Hunting Bag by Terry Smith
Terry Smith’s contribution to this year’s CLF Fundraising Auction will make a very unique addition to any collection. It’s a sturdy hunter’s bag that’s perfectly suited for use by the modern frontiersman; but it will serve equally well as an eye-catching piece of period decor for your home.
Smith’s bag is made from an original remnant of 19th century coverlet. The coverlet features a pleasant floral motif that tastefully accents the front of the bag. The bag is fully lined with canvas and is entirely hand sewn with waxed linen thread. The bag also features an interior pocket for extra possibles. The flap is lined with bark tanned deer hide for additional strength.
The bag’s strap is fashioned from heavy duty cowhide. The bag comes complete with a handy patch knife, fitted with a nicely figured curly maple handle, that fits into a bark tanned deer skin sheath that’s attached to the strap. The knife was crafted by the late Bill Brown: Terry’s friend and a prolific knife maker.
